Hoya carnosa 'Indian Rope' is a captivating cultivar of the wax plant native to Eastern Asia and Australia. Renowned for its intriguing twisted foliage and beautifully scented clusters of star-shaped flowers, this plant makes a fascinating addition to any indoor collection. Its cascading vines make it particularly attractive as a hanging plant.
Distinctive Features
- Foliage: Deep green, waxy leaves twisted into distinctive rope-like forms, creating an attractive spiral appearance.
- Flowers: Produces clusters of fragrant, pinkish-white, star-shaped blooms that secrete sweet nectar.
- Growth Habit: Naturally trailing vines make it excellent for hanging baskets or vertical displays.
Care Tips
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight; avoid direct sun which can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Allow the top 2-3 cm of soil to dry between waterings to avoid root rot.
- Humidity: Enjoys higher humidity levels; regular misting or placing near a humidifier is beneficial.
- Media: Requires well-draining, aerated soil mixes such as those containing orchid bark or perlite.
- Temperature: Thrives best between 16-26°C; avoid temperatures below 10°C.
- Fertiliser: Apply a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser monthly during the growing season.
- Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years, or when rootbound, into a slightly larger container.
