Hoya 'Chouke'
release_alert Low Stock - 1 available
Hoya ‘Chouke’ is a hybrid between Hoya carnosa and Hoya serpens, created by the same breeder who developed Hoya ‘Mathilde’. It carries traits from both parents but is generally more vigorous than ‘Mathilde’, with slightly larger, rounded leaves that are often speckled with silver and carried on trailing stems. The flowers are produced in umbels, white with a pink to red corona, strongly fragrant, and nectar-bearing. Its combination of attractive foliage and reliable flowering has made it a popular and easy-to-grow hybrid among collectors.
Distinctive Features
- Leaf form: Small, semi-succulent leaves reminiscent of H. serpens, often slightly cupped and softly textured.
- Flowers: Clusters of creamy-white to pale pink flowers with a sweet, mild fragrance. Blooms are smaller than typical H. carnosa but more numerous per umbel.
- Growth habit: Compact trailing vines, ideal for baskets or mounted culture; not as aggressive as pure H. carnosa.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright indirect light is best; some morning sun enhances flowering, but avoid hot afternoon exposure.
- Water: Allow the top layer of substrate to dry between waterings. Less frequent watering in winter months.
- Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity; thrives in terrariums or greenhouses but adapts to household humidity.
- Media: Use a well-draining mix of bark, perlite, and coco coir; avoid overly dense or water-retentive soil.
- Temperature: Optimal range is 16–28 °C; protect from chills and frost.
- Fertiliser: Apply a diluted balanced fertiliser monthly in spring and summer. A bloom booster can be used to promote flowering.
- Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years or when roots begin to circle the pot. Avoid excessive root disturbance.
