release_alert Low Stock - 2 available
Hoya coronaria ‘Red’ is a striking warm-growing species known for its bold, waxy star-shaped flowers and robust growth habit. The dramatic red blooms and thick, upright foliage make this a standout addition for collectors wanting something truly sculptural and unique.
Key Characteristics
- Flower Size: Large, fleshy blooms with a vivid red corolla and contrasting centre
- Growth Habit: Semi-upright to scrambling, forming strong stems and thick leaves
- Scent: Mild fragrance depending on growing conditions
- Flowering Season: Mainly warm months; may bloom multiple times throughout the season
- Climate Suitability: Prefers warm to hot conditions; excellent for growers in northern or warm indoor environments
- WA Status: WA Permitted
- Seasonal Note: Growth slows during the cooler months—see Seasonal Hoya Care for Australian Growers for warm-season tips.
Growing Conditions
- Light: Bright indirect light to soft morning sun encourages strong growth and larger blooms. Too little light reduces flowering.
- Temperature: Thrives in 18–32°C and appreciates consistent warmth. Protect from cold snaps.
- Watering: Allow the potting mix to dry back between waterings. Overwatering can cause root issues—see How to Water Hoyas for guidance.
- Potting Mix: Requires a very airy, free-draining mix. Learn more in Understanding Hoya Roots.
- Feeding: Benefits from regular fertiliser throughout the warmer months. For growth and blooming support, see Grow Hoyas Faster & Get More Flowers.
