Hoya elliptica is a mesmerizing Hoya species cherished for its distinctive round leaves adorned with silver-splashes and its beautiful clusters of fragrant flowers. Native to Southeast Asia, this vining plant is a delightful addition to any plant collection.
Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Round to slightly oval-shaped leaves with a deep green base color and striking silver splash variegation. The leaves have a thick, succulent texture and a slightly fuzzy surface.
- Flowers: Produces clusters of delicate, star-shaped flowers in shades of white or pale pink with a darker pink corona. The flowers have a sweet, subtle fragrance.
- Growth Habit: This Hoya is a vining epiphyte that thrives when provided with a support to climb, such as a trellis or moss pole. It can also be grown in a hanging basket.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
- Humidity: This Hoya appreciates moderate to high humidity. You can increase humidity by using a humidifier, placing the plant on a pebble tray, or misting the leaves regularly.
- Temperature: Maintain warm temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C) for optimal growth.
- Fertiliser: Use a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during the spring and summer growing seasons.
- Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years as needed, using a well-draining potting mix.
