Hoya imperialis

Hoya imperialis is native to Borneo, the Philippines, and surrounding parts of Southeast Asia. It is admired for its oversized, deeply coloured flowers and robust vining growth. This species is among the largest-flowered of all Hoyas, making it a spectacular choice for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Distinctive Features

• Remarkable flowers: The blooms are broad and star-shaped, often deep crimson to burgundy with a glossy texture and a pale corona at the centre.
• Impressive size: Individual flowers can exceed 7 cm in diameter, borne in clusters of up to 10–15 blooms.
• Vigorous growth: A fast-growing climber with thick stems and broad, glossy green leaves; ideal for trellises or large hanging baskets.

Care Tips

• Light: Thrives in bright filtered light; avoid prolonged direct sun, especially in hot climates.
• Water: Water generously in active growth (spring to autumn), allowing the top layer of soil to dry between waterings. Reduce in winter.
• Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity; benefits from regular misting or placement near a humidifier.
• Media: Use a chunky, free-draining mix of orchid bark, perlite, and peat or coco coir.
• Temperature: Optimal between 18–28°C; avoid exposure below 12°C.
