Hoya juannguoiana is a delightful Hoya species cherished for its compact size, adorable small leaves, and its tendency to produce abundant, fragrant flowers. It's a relatively new discovery, originating from the Philippines.
Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Small, ovate leaves with a slightly fuzzy texture. The leaves are typically green but can develop reddish hues under brighter light conditions.
- Flowers: Produces clusters of small, star-shaped flowers in shades of pink or peach. The flowers have a sweet fragrance and are known to bloom frequently.
- Growth Habit: This Hoya has a compact vining growth habit, making it well-suited for smaller spaces or hanging baskets. It can also be trained to climb a small trellis or support.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Some morning or evening sun can encourage flowering.
- Water: Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
- Humidity: This Hoya prefers moderate to high humidity. You can increase humidity by using a humidifier, placing the plant on a pebble tray, or misting the leaves regularly.
- Temperature: Maintain warm temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C) for optimal growth.
- Fertiliser: Use a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during the spring and summer growing seasons.
- Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years as needed, using a well-draining potting mix.
