Hoya kalimantan is a truly captivating Hoya species that hails from the lush forests of Indonesia. This rare and sought-after Hoya is prized for its stunning foliage and unique flower clusters, making it a must-have for any Hoya enthusiast.
Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Elongated oval leaves with a deep green colour and a slightly fuzzy texture. The leaves are typically 8-12cm long (approximately 3-4 inches) and 4-6cm wide (approximately 1.5-2.5 inches).
- Flowers: Produces clusters of small, star-shaped flowers that are a beautiful blend of pink and yellow hues. The flowers have a delicate fragrance and are typically 1-1.5cm in diameter (approximately 0.5 inches).
- Growth Habit: This Hoya has a vining growth habit and can reach several metres in length. It thrives when provided with a support to climb, such as a trellis or moss pole. It can also be grown in a hanging basket.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Some direct morning or evening sun can promote flowering.
- Water: Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
- Humidity: This Hoya appreciates moderate to high humidity. You can increase humidity by using a humidifier, placing the plant on a pebble tray, or misting the leaves regularly.
- Temperature: Maintain warm temperatures between 18-29°C (65-85°F) for optimal growth.
- Fertiliser: Use a balanced liquid fertiliser monthly during the spring and summer growing seasons.
- Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years as needed, using a well-draining potting mix.
