Hoya minahassae
release_alert Low Stock - 2 available
Hoya minahassae comes from the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia, where it grows in tropical forests at varying elevations. The plant sends out long, twining stems that attach to surrounding vegetation, using the dappled light beneath the canopy to fuel its growth. In cultivation, it adapts well to a trellis, hoop, or basket, depending on how it is displayed.
The leaves are slender, lance-shaped, and often longer than those of many other hoyas, with a glossy green surface and a firm texture. When established, the plant produces umbels of small, pale flowers with contrasting centres. These blooms are lightly scented and secrete droplets of nectar, which sometimes glisten on the flowers in evening light.
Consistent warmth, humidity, and bright filtered light encourage steady growth and eventual flowering. A chunky, free-draining potting mix prevents root problems and supports the plant through its active growing season. With regular feeding and stable conditions, Hoya minahassae rewards the grower with both elegant foliage and fragrant blooms.
Care Tips:
- Light: Provide bright, indirect light and avoid harsh midday sun.
- Water: Allow the surface of the mix to dry slightly before watering again.
- Humidity: Benefits from moderate to high humidity.
- Media: Use a coarse, free-draining mix with bark and perlite.
- Fertiliser: Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser during the growing season.
- Temperature: Best suited to conditions between 18–28°C.
- Repotting: Repot when roots fill the container, as slight restriction can encourage flowering.
