Hoya polyneura 'Splash'
cancel Sold out
Hoya polyneura 'Splash' is a striking cultivar of Hoya polyneura, commonly known as the fishtail Hoya due to its distinctive veined foliage. Native to the Himalayas and parts of China, this epiphytic species thrives in humid, forested environments. The 'Splash' variety features elongated, thin leaves with prominent dark green venation and silvery speckling across the surface, adding to its visual appeal. It produces delicate, star-shaped, pale yellow flowers with a reddish centre, exuding a mild fragrance.
Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Fishtail-shaped, pale green with darker green splash markings, and a smooth, waxy texture. The leaves are arranged oppositely on the stem and can grow up to 5cm (2in) long and 3cm (1.2in) wide.
- Flowers: Borne in clusters of up to 20, each with a diameter of 1cm (0.4in). The flowers are a pale pink colour with a darker pink centre and have a subtle, sweet fragrance.
- Growth Habit: A vining plant that can grow up to 2m (6.5ft) long. It is best grown in a hanging basket or on a trellis or ladder to allow its long stems to cascade freely.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Water regularly during the growing season (spring and summer) and allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in autumn and winter.
- Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity. Misting the leaves regularly can help to increase humidity levels.
- Temperature: Ideal temperature range is 18-25°C (64-77°F). Avoid temperatures below 10°C (50°F).
- Fertiliser: Fertilise once a month during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
- Potting: Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal.
- Propagation: Can be propagated from stem cuttings. Take cuttings in spring or summer and root them in a well-draining potting mix.
