Hoya pubicalyx 'Royal Hawaiian Super Splash' is a robust tropical epiphyte originating from the Philippines. Celebrated for its energetic growth and heavily speckled leaves, this cultivar stands out for both foliage and bloom. It makes a handsome vining specimen for hanging baskets, trellises or totem poles.
Distinctive Features
- Leaf Patterning: Long, lanceolate leaves are densely splashed with silver variegation, creating a marbled or "painted" look on deep green foliage.
- Fragrant Flowers: Produces umbels of waxy, star-shaped blooms in shades of deep pink to burgundy, with a sweet musk-like scent. Flowering typically occurs in warmer months.
- Vigorous Growth: A fast-growing vine that quickly covers supports; ideal for trained or cascading displays.
Care Tips
- Light: Prefers bright filtered light; can tolerate some direct sun but avoid harsh midday rays to prevent leaf scorch.
- Water: Allow soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce frequency in cooler months. Avoid overwatering.
- Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity, especially in warm climates or indoor settings.
- Media: Use a well-draining epiphytic mix, such as orchid bark with perlite and coco coir.
- Temperature: Thrives between 18–28°C. Sensitive to frost – protect from temperatures below 10°C.
- Fertiliser: Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser monthly during the growing season. Reduce in winter.
- Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years or when pot-bound, preferably in early spring.

Non-Biosecurity States (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, SA): We now offer two dispatches per week for these regions:
- Tuesday Dispatch: Orders placed by Sunday 11:59 PM AEST.
- Friday Dispatch: Orders placed by Wednesday 11:59 PM AEST. Orders placed after these cut-offs will be dispatched on the next available day.
Biosecurity States (WA, NT, TAS): These orders require mandatory biosecurity treatment (PHC) and follow a specific weekly schedule:
- Cut-off: Orders must be placed by Thursday 11:59 PM AEST.
- Dispatch Day: Orders are processed over the weekend and dispatched on Tuesday.
Plant Health Certification (PHC) Fees:
- $20 fee applies to WA orders.
- $10 fee applies to NT and TAS orders. This fee is per order (not per plant) and is included in your shipping costat checkout.
