Hoya 'Purple Pride'
release_alert Low Stock - 1 available
Hoya 'Purple Pride', is a cultivated variety renowned for its stunning variegated leaves and robust vining habit. Originally derived from Southeast Asian forest margins, this clone has become a favourite among collectors for its ornamental foliage as much as its occasional porcelain-like blooms.
Distinctive Features
- Tri-colour leaves: Foliage exhibits striking combinations of dark green centres bordered by creamy white margins, often blushed with soft rose-pink tones on new growth.
- Porcelain flowers: Clusters of star-shaped, pale pink blooms may appear in ideal conditions, emitting a subtle sweet fragrance in warm months.
- Vining growth: Naturally trailing or climbing, perfect for hanging baskets or training on supports indoors.
Care Tips
- Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Some morning sun helps maintain vivid variegation, but harsh afternoon rays may scorch the pale areas.
- Water: Water when the top third of the potting mix feels dry. Avoid overwatering as roots are sensitive to prolonged saturation.
- Humidity: Enjoys moderate humidity but tolerates typical indoor levels; benefits from misting during dry periods.
- Media: Prefers a loose, well-aerated mix – such as orchid bark blended with perlite and peat-free compost.
- Temperature: Ideal between 16–28 °C. Protect from prolonged cold below 10 °C.
- Fertiliser: Use a balanced liquid fertiliser monthly during active growth (spring and summer).
- Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years or when noticeably rootbound, ideally in spring before the flush of new growth.
