Hoya sigillatis
release_alert Low Stock - 2 available
Hoya sigillatis is native to the forests of Borneo and is admired for its trailing growth habit and distinctive foliage. This species displays narrow, lance-shaped leaves heavily speckled with silver, contrasting beautifully with its warm-toned flowers. Its natural habitat is humid, filtered-light rainforest canopy, making it well adapted to indoor cultivation in temperate climates.
Distinctive Features
- Foliage: Narrow olive-green leaves with heavy silver mottling; older leaves may develop maroon hues in strong light.
- Flowers: Clusters of orange to salmon-pink star-shaped blooms with a central yellow corona, lightly scented.
- Growth Habit: Trailing to pendant epiphyte ideal for baskets or mounted culture.
Care Tips
- Light: Prefers bright, filtered light; leaves may flush with red tones if exposed to strong indirect light.
- Water: Water thoroughly when the top 2–3 cm of media are dry; reduce frequency during winter.
- Humidity: Benefits from moderate to high humidity; thrives above 60% RH.
- Media: Use a loose, free-draining mix such as orchid bark with perlite and coco coir.
- Temperature: Ideal range is 18–28°C; protect from frost and cold drafts.
- Fertiliser: Feed monthly in the growing season with a balanced, dilute fertiliser.
- Repotting: Every 2–3 years or when roots outgrow the container; avoid overpotting.
Additional Notes
- Encourages flowering with a stable environment and bright light; blooms often appear on old peduncles.
- Does not tolerate soggy soil; allow drying out between waterings for best results.
