Hoya sp. bintulu (WA Prohibited)
release_alert Low Stock - 2 available
Hoya sp. Bintulu is native to the Bintulu region of Sarawak, Borneo. This epiphytic plant thrives in the humid tropical rainforest, where it clings to trees or rocks. It features elongated, lance-shaped leaves with a leathery texture, and depending on the growing conditions, some specimens may develop subtle veining or variegation. The flowers are typically star-shaped, ranging in colour from pale yellow to pink, and exude a sweet fragrance.
Distinctive Features
- Leaves: Thick, ovate, and dark green, with a prominent raised midrib and rigid venation. The leaves are arranged oppositely on the stem and can grow up to 10cm (4in) long and 6cm (2.4in) wide.
- Flowers: Borne in clusters of up to 20, each with a diameter of 1.5cm (0.6in). The flowers are a creamy white colour with a purple corona and have a sweet, delicate fragrance.
- Growth Habit: A vigorous vining plant that can grow up to 3m (10ft) long. It is best grown in a hanging basket or on a trellis or ladder to allow its long runners to cascade freely.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Water regularly during the growing season (spring and summer) and allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in autumn and winter.
- Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity. Misting the leaves regularly can help to increase humidity levels.
- Temperature: Ideal temperature range is 18-25°C (64-77°F). Avoid temperatures below 10°C (50°F).
- Fertiliser: Fertilise once a month during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
- Potting: Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal.
- Propagation: Can be propagated from stem cuttings. Take cuttings in spring or summer and root them in a well-draining potting mix.
