Hoya sp. Hat Som Paen (WA - Prohibited)
release_alert Low Stock - 2 available
Hoya sp. Hat Som Paen is a rarely seen species prized for its refined umbels and beautiful colour contrast. Each blossom opens a clean white, with a vivid pink-purple centre that glows against the petals and deepens as the flowers mature. Once established, it can bloom repeatedly through the warmer months, producing tidy, rounded clusters that really stand out in a collection.
Key Characteristics
- Name: Hoya sp. Hat Som Paen
- Growth Habit: Warm-growing vining species suited to trellises or support frames
- Leaf Features: Medium-sized green leaves with a slightly succulent feel and clear venation
- Flowers: White star-shaped blooms with striking pink to purple centres, held in neat spherical clusters
- Fragrance: Light, sweet perfume, most noticeable in the evening
- Pot Size Supplied: 100 mm
- Skill Level: Intermediate
- Growth Speed: Moderate in warm conditions
- WA Status: Prohibited – not available for Western Australia
- Seasonal Note: Active mainly in the warmer months; growth and flowering slow in winter. For seasonal adjustments, see Seasonal Hoya Care for Australian Growers.
Growing Conditions
- Light: Bright filtered light is ideal. Too little light will reduce blooming, while harsh direct sun can scorch the foliage.
- Water: Allow the top layer of mix to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid keeping the potting mix constantly wet. For detailed watering tips, see How to Water Hoyas.
- Temperature: Warm grower; prefers consistent indoor warmth and protection from cold drafts.
- Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity, which supports both foliage quality and flower production.
- Potting Mix: Best in a chunky, free-draining Hoya mix that keeps roots aerated. Learn more in Understanding Hoya Roots.
- Fertiliser: Regular, light feeding through the growing season encourages stronger growth and more umbels—see Grow Hoyas Faster & Get More Flowers.
