Hoya spartioides – Specimen Plant – H205
release_alert Low Stock - 1 available
This is a mature specimen of Hoya spartioides, an unusual collector species that grows with slender, photosynthetic stems rather than conventional leaves. Its sparse, architectural growth makes it quite unlike almost any other Hoya.
The plant shown in the photographs is the exact plant offered for sale. This is a one-off specimen growing in a large, open orchid-style pot. It is an older plant and may show natural marks, previous pruning and minor stem-tip damage consistent with its age and growth habit.
Flowers
Small clusters of thick, waxy flowers are produced directly from the slender stems. Flower colour is generally yellow to amber, sometimes developing apricot or pinkish tones depending on growing conditions and maturity.
The plant is not guaranteed to be flowering when dispatched.
Care
- Light: Bright, indirect light with gentle morning sun. Avoid suddenly exposing the plant to harsh midday sun.
- Water: Water thoroughly, then allow the growing medium to dry partially before watering again. Avoid keeping the roots continually wet.
- Temperature: Best grown under warm to intermediate conditions. Protect from cold temperatures and sudden changes.
- Growing medium: Use a very open, free-draining epiphytic mix with excellent airflow around the roots.
- Humidity and airflow: Moderate to high humidity is beneficial, provided the plant also receives good air movement.
- Feeding: Apply a balanced fertiliser lightly during active growth.
Key Characteristics
- Plant type: Mature one-off specimen
- Growth habit: Leafless to almost leafless epiphytic Hoya
- Stems: Slender green stems perform most of the plant’s photosynthesis
- Flowers: Small clusters of waxy, star-shaped blooms
- Flower colour: Yellow to amber with possible apricot or pink tones
- Growth rate: Generally slower and more specialised than common Hoyas
- Collector code: H205
Specimen Plant Information
This listing is for the exact plant photographed. It is a mature plant rather than a freshly established cutting. Older specimen Hoyas naturally develop marks, bare sections, previous pruning points and uneven growth. These characteristics are part of the plant’s maturity and should not be considered faults.
Due to the long, slender growth of this species, some minor movement or stem-tip damage may occur during transport. The plant will be packed carefully, but completely preventing movement during delivery is not possible.
