Mammillaria celsiana 'Frosty' (WA Prohibited)
release_alert Low Stock - 1 available
Mammillaria celsiana var. celsiana 'Frosty' is a fascinating mutation of the species native to the rocky highlands of central Mexico. Unlike the typical form, this cultivar lacks the dense golden spines and instead develops an ethereal coating of ultra-fine, white spines that evoke freshly fallen snow. We are offering three large, one-off specimens from our stock collection—each a mature and distinctive example of this rare form.
Distinctive Features
- Snow-like Spination: The most arresting trait is its absence of thick golden spines, replaced with extremely fine, white radial spines creating a snowy mantle over the body.
- Compact Growth: Grows in a compact, globular form typical of the species, with clustered heads that may offset over time.
- Bloom Display: During the growing season, it produces pale pink to cream flowers forming a charming crown around the apex.
Care Tips
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight or light shade; protect from harsh midday rays to avoid spine damage.
- Water: Water sparingly in the warmer months and allow the soil to dry completely between waterings; nearly dry during winter dormancy.
- Humidity: Tolerates dry air very well; avoid excessive moisture to prevent rot.
- Temperature: Ideal range is 10–25°C; can tolerate brief drops to near freezing if dry.
- Fertiliser: Use a low-nitrogen cactus fertiliser monthly during active growth in spring and summer.
- Potting: Requires a gritty, free-draining cactus mix; clay pots are ideal for airflow and moisture control.
- Propagation: Propagated by offsets or seeds, though offsetting is often slow in this form.
