Mammillaria elongata 'Red', affectionately known as the Red Ladyfinger Cactus, is a delightful and exceptionally easy-to-care-for cactus that is native to Mexico. This charming cultivar distinguishes itself with a captivating reddish hue to its spines, adding a touch of warmth to its unique appearance. This clustering cactus is a sight to behold, forming dense clumps of finger-like stems that can reach heights of up to 15cm (6in).
Distinctive Features
- Shape: Elongated, finger-like stems.
- Spines: Golden-yellow or brown spines with a reddish cast, varying in length.
- Flowers: Small, pink or white flowers that bloom in the spring.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light.
- Water: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.
- Humidity: Low humidity.
- Temperature: 10-30°C (50-86°F). Can tolerate light frost.
- Fertiliser: Fertilise once a month during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
- Potting: Use a well-draining cactus and succulent mix. Repot every 2-3 years.
- Propagation: Propagate from offsets or seeds.
