Mammillaria elongata 'Red' is a captivating cultivar of the popular Ladyfinger Cactus, known for its cylindrical stems covered in dense, copper-red spines. Native to central Mexico, this small yet prolific species forms attractive clumps, making it a favourite among collectors. With its easy-care nature and striking appearance, it thrives in containers, rock gardens, and arid landscapes.
Care Tips
- Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade for optimal colour intensity.
- Water: Allow soil to dry completely between watering; reduce frequency in winter.
- Humidity: Adapted to low humidity; excessive moisture can cause rot.
- Temperature: Tolerates temperatures down to 5°C but thrives in warm, dry conditions.
- Fertiliser: Apply a diluted cactus fertiliser during the growing season (spring and summer).
- Potting: Use a well-draining cactus mix with added sand or perlite.
- Propagation: Easily propagated via offsets, which can be separated and replanted.
