check_circle In Stock
Masdevallia Veitch’s Candy Cane is a hybrid in the Pleurothallidinae subtribe, bred for its compact growth and highly patterned blooms. It produces triangular flowers with elongated sepaline tails, often striped or banded in shades of white and pink with red to magenta highlights, reminiscent of the colours of a traditional candy cane. The flowers emerge singly on slender upright stems and can appear several times a year under suitable conditions. The plant itself forms tight clumps of short, upright leaves and is well suited to cool to intermediate conditions with consistent moisture.
Care Tips:
- Light – Prefers bright, filtered light; avoid direct sun exposure which can scorch leaves.
- Water – Keep evenly moist; water frequently with pure or low-mineral water and avoid allowing the plant to dry out completely.
- Humidity – Requires high humidity (60–90%) and excellent air movement to prevent fungal issues.
- Media – Best grown in a fine-grade, moisture-retentive orchid mix with good drainage, such as fine bark with perlite and sphagnum moss.
- Temperature – Thrives in cool to intermediate conditions, ideally between 10–22 °C.
- Fertiliser – Use a diluted balanced orchid fertiliser monthly during active growth.
- Repotting – Repot annually or when the media starts to break down, preferably in cooler months or just after flowering.
