Monstera adansonii, also known as the Swiss Cheese Vine, is a fenestrated aroid originating from the rainforests of Central and South America. Typically found trailing through the undergrowth or scaling tree trunks, this particular form stands out for its more upright posture, offering a fresh take on a much-loved species. Commonly referred to as the Swiss cheese vine, it is admired for its airy, perforated leaves and adaptable nature indoors.
Care Tips
- Light: Thrives in bright, filtered light; protect from harsh afternoon sun to avoid leaf scorch.
- Water: Keep the substrate lightly moist, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings.
- Humidity: Prefers high humidity levels; benefits from regular misting or placement near a humidifier.
- Media: Use a chunky, airy mix—combine orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir for excellent drainage and root aeration.
- Temperature: Optimal range is 18–28°C; avoid cold drafts and conditions below 10°C.
- Fertiliser: Feed every 4–6 weeks during active growth with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength.
- Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when roots begin to outgrow the container, especially if supporting vertical growth.
Additional Notes
- Distinguishable from *Monstera andersonii* by its broader leaves and slightly thicker texture.
- Toxic if ingested by pets—exercise caution with placement in homes with animals.
