Monstera deliciosa 'Thai Constellation' - The Variegated Monstera
check_circle In Stock
Monstera deliciosa 'Thai Constellation' is a variegated form of the species Monstera deliciosa, developed through tissue culture to produce stable cream and yellow marbling across its leaves. The species is native to southern Mexico and Central America, where it grows as a large climbing hemiepiphyte in tropical forests. This cultivated form retains the same leaf shape and growth habit as the species, including the development of characteristic fenestrations as it matures.
The variegation pattern in 'Thai Constellation' is stable, meaning it is present in all new leaves without reverting to full green. Each leaf displays a unique mix of marbling, speckling, and large cream sectors, and the pattern remains consistent even when the plant is propagated. It will produce the same seasonal flowering and fruiting structures as the species, though this is rare in indoor cultivation.
In cultivation, 'Thai Constellation' thrives in bright, indirect light, which helps maintain strong variegation and steady growth. It benefits from a well-draining aroid mix and support for climbing to encourage larger leaves. The variegated portions of the leaves contain less chlorophyll, so the plant grows more slowly than green forms and benefits from consistent warmth, moisture, and balanced feeding during active growth.
Care Tips:
- Light: Bright, indirect light to maintain variegation; avoid prolonged direct sun.
- Water: Keep evenly moist but not waterlogged; allow the top layer to dry slightly between waterings.
- Humidity: Prefers 60% or higher for best growth.
- Media: Use a free-draining aroid mix with bark, perlite, and organic matter.
- Fertiliser: Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength during active growth.
- Temperature: Best between 20-28 °C; avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 15 °C.
- Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years or when root-bound to refresh media.
