Monstera friedrichsthalii, also known as the Swiss Cheese Vine, is a delicate trailing species of aroid native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. Often confused with its upright cousin Monstera adansonii, this species is distinguished by its cascading growth pattern and more refined, elongated foliage. It naturally dangles from trees or clambers loosely through vegetation, thriving in filtered jungle light.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light is best; it will tolerate some shade but growth may slow.
- Water: Water when the top 2-3 cm of soil is dry; avoid waterlogging the roots.
- Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity; aim for 60% or higher where possible.
- Media: Prefers an airy, free-draining mix with perlite, orchid bark, and a touch of coco coir.
- Temperature: Ideal range is 18-26°C; avoid exposure to cold drafts or frost.
- Fertiliser: Use a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during spring and summer.
- Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years or when roots circle the base of the pot.
