Myrmecodia tuberosa large Ant Plant
Advanced 66mm pot
Myrmecodia tuberosa, also known as the ant plant, is an epiphytic native plant that has a symbiotic relationship with certain ant species which use the hollow body of the plant as a shelter and defend the plant from other insects. Ants also provide nutrients to the plant through their waste, helping it to thrive. This unique relationship is an example of the complex ways in which different species can interact in nature.
Plants can be easily grown indoors or outdoors in warmer climates, but they need protection or heating in cooler climates. In southern states, they may only be grown indoors in heated rooms or greenhouses. In colder areas, the plants should be kept on the dry side in winter and watered well but allowed to almost dry out in the summer. A weak solution of any fertiliser or slow-release pellets can be used. Myrmecodia tuberosa plants can survive for very long periods in very small pots and need a very open, well-drained potting mix. They may also be planted on branches or other materials that retain some moisture."
