Nephrolepis exaltata 'Fluffy Ruffles' is a compact fern selection derived from the species native to tropical regions worldwide. It grows naturally in warm, humid forests, often in shaded or filtered light environments with consistently moist soils rich in organic matter.
This form develops dense, arching fronds with finely divided, overlapping leaflets that create a soft, feathery texture. The fronds grow in an upright to slightly spreading habit, forming a lush mound that remains relatively neat compared to larger-growing forms of the species.
Growth is continuous in warm, humid conditions, making it a suitable choice for indoor displays, shaded patios, or terrariums. It is sensitive to prolonged dryness, both in soil and air, and benefits from consistent moisture and regular grooming to remove older fronds.
Care Tips:
- Light: Bright, indirect light or light shade; avoid direct sun on fronds.
- Water: Keep soil evenly moist, never allowing it to fully dry; reduce slightly in cooler months.
- Humidity: Requires high humidity; mist regularly or use a humidifier indoors.
- Media: Plant in a rich, free-draining mix with good moisture retention.
- Fertiliser: Apply a diluted balanced fertiliser monthly during active growth.
- Temperature: Prefers 18–27 °C; protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 10 °C.

Non-Biosecurity States (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, SA): We now offer two dispatches per week for these regions:
- Tuesday Dispatch: Orders placed by Sunday 11:59 PM AEST.
- Friday Dispatch: Orders placed by Wednesday 11:59 PM AEST. Orders placed after these cut-offs will be dispatched on the next available day.
Biosecurity States (WA, NT, TAS): These orders require mandatory biosecurity treatment (PHC) and follow a specific weekly schedule:
- Cut-off: Orders must be placed by Thursday 11:59 PM AEST.
- Dispatch Day: Orders are processed over the weekend and dispatched on Tuesday.
Plant Health Certification (PHC) Fees:
- $20 fee applies to WA orders.
- $10 fee applies to NT and TAS orders. This fee is per order (not per plant) and is included in your shipping costat checkout.
