Oxalis flava 'Pink Form'
cancel Sold out
Oxalis flava 'Pink Form' is a colour variant of the South African species Oxalis flava, which is native to the winter rainfall regions of the Western Cape. In its natural environment, it grows in sandy, well-drained soils in open, sunny locations and remains dormant during the hot, dry summer months, reshooting with cooler temperatures and seasonal rains.
This form produces the same clumping growth of slender stems and trifoliate leaves as the species, but with soft pink funnel-shaped flowers instead of yellow. The blooms open fully in bright sunlight and close during cloudy weather or at night, appearing in dense clusters above the foliage.
Flowering generally occurs from late autumn through winter, sometimes continuing into spring in mild climates. The combination of its distinctive floral colour and compact habit makes it well suited to pots, rock gardens, and collections of winter-growing bulbs.
Care Tips:
- Light: Full sun is required for compact growth and abundant flowering.
- Water: Water regularly during active growth; keep completely dry in summer dormancy.
- Humidity: Prefers low humidity.
- Media: Use a sandy, free-draining potting mix.
- Fertiliser: Feed every 2–3 weeks during the growing season with a diluted balanced fertiliser.
- Temperature: Best grown between 10–25 °C; protect from frost.
- Repotting: Replant bulbs during dormancy, refreshing the mix before the next cycle.
