Oxalis triangularis Purple Shamrock
check_circle In Stock
Oxalis triangularis, commonly known as Purple Shamrock or Butterfly Plant, is grown for its dramatic triangular leaves in deep burgundy-purple with brighter magenta markings. The foliage is held on slender stems above the pot and is complemented by delicate pale pink flowers.
The leaves respond naturally to light, opening during the day and folding together at night or during dull conditions. Plants grow from underground corms and can reshoot after periods of dormancy.
Plant Supplied
You will receive an established plant growing in a 66 mm square nursery pot. The photographs show the current size and presentation of the plants available.
Plants are not guaranteed to arrive in flower. The slender stems and leaves can be bent or marked during transport, but established plants generally replace damaged foliage quickly during active growth.
Care
- Light: Bright, filtered light or gentle morning sun. Strong light helps maintain the rich purple colouring.
- Water: Water thoroughly, then allow the upper layer of potting mix to dry slightly before watering again.
- Temperature: Prefers mild conditions. Protect from frost, intense heat and harsh afternoon sun.
- Media: Use a fertile, free-draining potting mix.
- Fertiliser: Apply a diluted balanced fertiliser during active growth.
- Dormancy: Plants may occasionally lose some or all foliage and enter dormancy. Reduce watering until fresh growth appears.
