Peperomia prostrata 'String of Turtles' is a delightful miniature trailing plant that will add a touch of whimsy to your home. This charming houseplant is native to the rainforests of Brazil and is prized for its unique leaves that resemble tiny turtle shells.

Distinctive Features

  • Leaves: Small, round leaves with dark green veins that resemble turtle shells. The leaves are typically 1-2cm (0.4-0.8 inches) in diameter and have a slightly succulent texture.
  • Growth Habit: This Peperomia has a trailing growth habit, making it ideal for hanging baskets or shelves where its vines can cascade gracefully. It is a relatively slow-growing plant, typically reaching a length of 30-45cm (12-18 inches).

Care Tips

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate leaves.
  • Water: Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
  • Humidity: This Peperomia enjoys moderate to high humidity. You can increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly, placing the plant on a pebble tray filled with water, or using a humidifier.
  • Temperature: Maintain comfortable room temperatures between 18-24°C (65-75°F). Avoid exposing this plant to cold draughts or temperatures below 13°C (55°F).
  • Fertiliser: Use a diluted liquid fertiliser once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
  • Pruning: Pinch back the stems to encourage bushier growth. You can also propagate new plants from stem cuttings.

  • Dispatch Day: All orders are dispatched on Tuesdays.
  • Cut-off for Same Week Dispatch: Orders must be placed by Monday 7am (AEST) to be sent that week. Orders placed after this will be dispatched the following Tuesday.

WA, NT & TAS Orders

  • Cut-off: Orders to WA, NT and TAS must be placed by Friday 7am (AEST) to be included in the following week’s dispatch.
  • Treatment & Delay: These orders require biosecurity treatment and certification, which is completed each Friday. Please allow an additional 1–2 weeks for processing.

Plant Health Certification (PHAC) Fees

  • $20 fee applies to WA orders.
  • $10 fee applies to NT and TAS orders.
  • This fee is per order (not per plant) and is included in your shipping cost at checkout.
