Philodendron Birkin
check_circle In Stock
Philodendron 'Birkin' is a self-heading plant developed in cultivation and not found in the wild. It produces glossy, deep green leaves marked with fine white to cream pinstripes that radiate from the midrib to the edges. Each leaf shows a unique pattern, and new leaves may open solid green before variegation develops with age.
Growth is compact and upright, with sturdy stems supporting the foliage in a tight arrangement. The plant retains a neat form without the need for climbing support, making it suitable for placement on shelves, desks, or as a small floor specimen. Under favourable conditions, new leaves appear steadily during the warmer months.
While capable of producing the typical aroid inflorescence, flowering is rare indoors. The main appeal lies in its patterned foliage, which remains consistent when provided with bright, indirect light and stable growing conditions.
Care Tips:
- Light: Bright, indirect light; insufficient light may reduce variegation.
- Water: Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged; allow the top layer to dry slightly before watering again.
- Humidity: Average household humidity is adequate; higher humidity supports stronger growth.
- Media: Use a well-draining potting mix with organic matter and perlite.
- Fertiliser: Feed every 4–6 weeks during active growth with a diluted balanced fertiliser.
- Temperature: Maintain between 18–27 °C; avoid exposure below 15 °C.
- Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years to refresh the mix and accommodate growth.
