cancel Sold out
Pleurothallis endotrachys, now placed in the genus Specklinia, is a miniature orchid native to montane cloud forests from Mexico through Central America to Venezuela. It grows as an epiphyte on moss-covered branches and trunks in cool, humid environments, often in shaded areas with constant moisture.
The plant forms small clumps of short stems, each topped with a single, fleshy, lanceolate leaf. From the base of the leaf emerges a slender, upright inflorescence that can continue producing flowers for many months. The blooms are small, typically bright orange to yellow, and covered in fine hairs or warty textures, giving them a distinctive appearance under close inspection.
Flowering can be near-continuous once the plant is mature, with successive flowers opening along the same spike. This persistent blooming habit, combined with its compact size, makes it a favoured species for terrarium culture or small orchid collections.
Care Tips:
- Light: Low to medium indirect light; avoid strong direct sunlight.
- Water: Keep evenly moist year-round; do not allow to dry out completely.
- Humidity: Requires high humidity, ideally above 70%.
- Media: Fine-grade bark, sphagnum moss, or mounted on cork or tree fern with moisture-retaining backing.
- Fertiliser: Use a diluted orchid fertiliser every 2–3 weeks during active growth.
- Temperature: Cool to intermediate, ideally 12–21 °C.
- Repotting: Repot or remount when media breaks down or growth extends beyond the mount or pot.
