Rhaphidophora cryptantha Large Specimen
release_alert Low Stock - 1 available
Rhaphidophora cryptantha is a rare aroid native to the damp, shaded forests of Papua New Guinea. This particular specimen is a truly exceptional offering—an established, large-leafed plant climbing a mounted pole, rarely seen in this size and vigour in cultivation. Its distinctive foliage tightly adheres to the support, giving it a striking mosaic appearance.
Distinctive Features
- Shingling growth: Leaves lie flat against a surface as the plant climbs, forming a compact vertical mosaic.
- Leaf pattern: Velvety, deep green leaves with silver veining offer remarkable texture and contrast.
- Mature size: This plant boasts significantly elongated runners and a thickly established base—rare at this level of development.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light; too much direct sun may scorch the leaves.
- Water: Keep moist but not soggy—allow the top 2 cm of substrate to dry slightly between watering.
- Humidity: Prefers high humidity (70%+), though will tolerate moderate indoor conditions with support.
- Media: Use a chunky, well-draining mix with orchid bark, perlite, and a small amount of coco coir or sphagnum.
- Temperature: Thrives in 18–28°C; protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.
- Fertiliser: Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during active growth.
- Repotting: Repot only when root-bound, preferably during the spring or early summer.
Additional Notes
- Toxic to pets if ingested—contains calcium oxalates like most aroids.
- This is a one-off listing of a very large plant. You will receive the exact specimen shown—an opportunity unlikely to come again.
