Rhipsalis Cynanchum marnierianum #47
Cynanchum marnierianum
‘Bird Cage or Stick Plant’
An amazing plant highly sought after by collectors due to its strange behavior. Leafless stems cascade downwards up to 1 meter, stems appear dead as they are brown and have a rough surface, growth is slow. Amazing 1cm birdcage like flowers appear from flower nodes during the autumn months.
These are well suited to outdoor growing in almost all parts of Australia but in southern states they should be kept under cover where they can be kept dry in winter. Plants may require winter protection in very cold or wet climates. They prefer shade levels of between 30 and 50%. Plants prefer open composted soils or in pots any potting mix. In extremely cold and wet climates keep plant dry in winter or provide a very well drained potting media.
Fertilize well when new growth appears in Spring and water regularly through the growing season, reduce watering in winter to allow dormancy to occur. Plants flower from 4 to 6 weeks in Autumn. Best grown in baskets. Prune back plants as required to encourage new vigorous growth.
Note: Plant health certification (PHC) charges of $10 will apply to WA, NT, and Tas. This fee will be incorporated into the shipping cost. Orders will take extra processing time for treatment and documentation.
