Rhipsalis ormindoi - Mistletoe Cactus

Rhipsalis ormindoi, commonly referred to as the Mistletoe Cactus, is a forest-dwelling cactus native to the Atlantic Forest region of southeastern Brazil. It grows in humid, shaded habitats, often rooted on tree branches where it benefits from consistent atmospheric moisture and filtered sunlight.
The stems are cylindrical, slender, and green, with small areoles spaced along their length. Branching tends to be irregular, producing long, trailing growth that can form tangled curtains over time. The segments remain flexible, adapting easily to the surfaces they grow upon.
Small, white flowers are produced along the stems, followed by rounded, whitish berries that contain seeds. These fruits are eaten by birds, which help disperse the species throughout the forest canopy.
Care Tips:
- Light: Provide bright, indirect light; avoid prolonged direct sun to prevent stem damage.
- Water: Keep the potting mix evenly moist during active growth, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings; reduce watering in winter.
- Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity; occasional misting is beneficial in dry conditions.
- Media: Use a free-draining mix containing fine orchid bark, peat or coir, and perlite.
- Temperature: Maintain between 15–27°C; protect from frost.
- Fertiliser: Feed every 4–6 weeks in the growing season with a diluted, balanced fertiliser.
- Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years or when root-bound, ideally in spring.
