Rhipsalis hoelleri #14
Rhipsalis are a group of cacti that have evolved to survive in moist to temperate forests, many grow in trees hanging from branches like ferns with thin cascading stems. Most varieties flower in the spring with small white, cream, orange, or pink. After flowering some varieties also produce small berries in the late summer and autumn months
Rhipsalis are well suited to outdoor growing in almost all parts of Australia although areas that do not experience cool winters may not be able to flower the plants well. They will also do very well indoors in well-lit areas.
Plants prefer shade levels of about 50%, less than 30% will cause leaves to redden and grow smaller. High shade may reduce flowering. In extremely cold and wet climates keep the plant dry in winter or provide a very well-drained potting media.
Fertilize with liquids or slow-release plant food when new growth appears in Spring. Keep the plant well-watered through the growing season, and reduce watering in winter to encourage flower initiation and dormancy.
Plants can be cut back when looking tired to encourage new growth.
