Sempervivum 'Fernwood'
Sempervivums, commonly known as "House Leeks," earned their name due to their historical use in Europe, where they were cultivated on rooftops to prevent leaks. These hardy plants are native to alpine regions in southern Europe and have undergone extensive hybridization over time. Sempervivums come in various sizes, ranging from 3cm to 15cm across. Some varieties rarely produce offsets, while others produce numerous offsets.
Preferred Position: Sempervivums thrive in full sun or partial shade and adapt well to gardens, borders, rockeries, or pots. When grown indoors, they should be placed in sunny spots to maintain their attractive shape and color, as they tend to lose these qualities in low-light conditions.
Watering: These plants can be watered throughout the year, with their fastest growth occurring during the winter months. Some Sempervivum varieties form tight rosettes in the summer to conserve moisture, slowing down their growth.
Feeding: During the growing season, it is advisable to provide Sempervivums with 25% of the recommended fertilizer dosage on a monthly basis. It's important to note that using less fertilizer typically results in better plant shape. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, as they can lead to larger plants with less vibrant coloration.
Repotting: Sempervivums can be allowed to overgrow their pots or repotted during the warmer months. They adapt well to almost any well-drained potting mix. Good growing
