Sempervivum 'Skrocki's Beauty' is a horticultural cultivar belonging to the genus Sempervivum in the Crassulaceae family. Its parent species originate from mountainous regions of southern Europe, where they grow in shallow soils over rock, often exposed to high light levels, fluctuating temperatures, and limited water availability. This background gives the plant a notable tolerance for both drought and cold conditions.
The rosettes are comprised of thick, triangular leaves that develop seasonal shifts in colour, often intensifying in cooler weather. Leaf surfaces are smooth with a slightly glossy appearance, and offsets are produced abundantly around the base, gradually forming dense mats over time. As with other Sempervivum, each rosette is monocarpic, flowering once before dying.
Flowering occurs in the warmer months, with erect stems emerging from mature rosettes bearing clusters of star-shaped flowers. These blooms are typically pink to reddish in tone and attract various pollinating insects. After flowering and seed production, the rosette dies, leaving offsets to continue the growth cycle and maintain the colony.
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers full sun for best colour development and compact growth.
- Water: Water sparingly, allowing the substrate to dry between waterings.
- Media: Requires a sharply draining, gritty mix.
- Fertiliser: Light feeding during the active growing season with a diluted, low-nitrogen fertiliser.
- Temperature: Hardy to freezing temperatures when kept in dry conditions.
- Repotting: Rarely necessary; divide and replant offsets when clumps become overcrowded or substrate deteriorates.
