Senecio articulatus
check_circle In Stock
A fascinating succulent with jointed, segmented stems resembling small candles or “hot dogs”. Each segment swells and contracts with water storage, producing fleshy, lobed leaves that may fall during dry or dormant periods. A hardy and unusual collector’s plant that thrives in bright light.
Care
- Light: Full sun to partial shade. Indoors, keep in a bright position to maintain colour and compact growth.
- Water: Water well when the mix is dry, allowing the soil to drain freely. Reduce watering in winter or dormancy.
- Temperature: Prefers warm to mild conditions. Protect from frost and extended cold.
- Media: Well-drained cactus or succulent mix.
- Feeding: Apply 25% of the normal dosage monthly during the growing season. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilisers to preserve colour and compact habit.
- Repotting: Best repotted in the warmer months if the plant becomes crowded or top-heavy.
Key Characteristics
- Stem shape: Cylindrical, jointed, and slightly mottled green
- Leaves: Lobed and deciduous, often shed in winter
- Growth habit: Upright succulent to around 20–30 cm tall
- Flowers: Small cream to white blooms on short stems
