Seyrigia humbertii
check_circle In Stock
Seyrigia humbertii is a slow growing woody succulent grown primarily for its caudex forming habit and the fine, furry texture that develops along its stems. With age, plants form a swollen, woody base that acts as a long term storage organ through extended dry periods. From this caudex, short upright branches emerge, covered in a soft, felt like indumentum.
The species is native to southern Madagascar, where it grows in dry, rocky habitats exposed to strong sun and long periods without rainfall. These conditions have shaped a plant that relies on its caudex and woody framework to persist through dormancy, remaining static for long periods before resuming growth when warmth and moisture return. In cultivation, the plant often appears unchanged for much of the year, which is normal for the species.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright light to full sun is preferred. Insufficient light can result in weak, elongated growth.
- Water: Water sparingly. Allow the growing medium to dry completely between waterings, particularly during cooler months.
- Media: A very free draining, mineral rich mix is essential. Poor drainage increases the risk of caudex or root rot.
- Fertiliser: Feed lightly during the warm growing season using a diluted, low nitrogen fertiliser.
- Temperature: Best grown between 18 and 32 degrees Celsius. Protect from prolonged exposure below 10 degrees Celsius.
- Repotting: Repot infrequently. Plants prefer minimal disturbance and often perform better when slightly restricted.
Additional Notes
- This plant is known to be toxic
