Sinningia bullata 'Emerald Forest'

Sinningia bullata 'Emerald Forest' is a cultivar of the Brazilian species Sinningia bullata, notable for its distinctively textured foliage. Like the species, it develops from a tuber, producing stems with prominently bullate (blistered) leaves that have a deep green upper surface and contrasting reddish-brown undersides. The leaf texture helps to increase surface rigidity and may reduce water loss in its natural rocky habitat.
During the warmer months, it produces clusters of tubular orange-red flowers held above the foliage, adapted for pollination by hummingbirds. The plant enters dormancy during cooler conditions, with foliage dying back to the tuber until growth resumes in spring.
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light with some gentle morning sun.
- Water: Keep evenly moist during active growth, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings; keep the tuber dry during dormancy.
- Media: Plant in a coarse, well-draining mix suited to tuberous species.
- Temperature: Maintain warmth in the growing period; protect from cold and frost.
- Fertiliser: Use a diluted, balanced fertiliser every 3-4 weeks while in leaf.
- Repotting: Repot in spring at the start of new growth, positioning the tuber just below the soil surface.
