Streptocarpus 'Pretty Turtle'
cancel Sold out
Streptocarpus 'Pretty Turtle' is a cultivated variety of Streptocarpus, a genus native to parts of Africa and Madagascar, with many hybrids originating from South African species. This cultivar forms a compact rosette of soft, slightly wrinkled green leaves. Its flowers are borne on slender stems above the foliage and display a pale lavender to mauve base colour, overlaid with darker purple veining and patterning that resembles the markings of a turtle shell. Flowering can occur over an extended period in suitable indoor conditions.
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light; avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Water when the top of the potting mix begins to dry; avoid wetting the crown of the plant to prevent rot.
- Humidity: Moderate humidity is ideal; provide gentle air circulation.
- Media: Use a free-draining mix with high organic matter content, such as one formulated for African violets.
- Temperature: Maintain between 16–24°C; avoid temperatures below 10°C.
- Fertiliser: Feed with a diluted, high-potassium fertiliser every 2–3 weeks during active growth and flowering.
- Repotting: Repot annually after the main flowering period, refreshing the potting mix.
