Sulcorebutia langeri cristata

Sulcorebutia langeri cristata is a crested form of Sulcorebutia langeri, a cactus species native to the high-altitude valleys of Chuquisaca, Bolivia. In this cristate growth form, the stem develops as a fan-shaped, contorted crest rather than a typical spherical body. The surface is densely covered in closely set tubercles arranged in irregular ridges, each tipped with short, fine spines. Flowers are similar to the typical form, appearing along the crest in late spring to early summer, usually magenta to pink and funnel-shaped.

Care Tips:

• Light: Provide bright light with several hours of direct sun daily to maintain compact growth and encourage flowering.
• Water: Water thoroughly during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings; keep almost dry during the dormant winter period.
• Humidity: Prefers low humidity and benefits from ample air movement.
• Media: Plant in a very free-draining cactus mix with added mineral grit or pumice.
• Temperature: Maintain above 5°C in winter; can withstand brief light frost if kept dry.
• Fertiliser: Feed monthly during active growth with a diluted, low-nitrogen cactus fertiliser.
• Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years, handling with care to avoid damaging the crest.
