Tephrocactus articulatus var. papyracanthus is an unusual Argentine cactus known for its jointed growth and distinctive flattened, paper-like spines. The papery spines emerge from each areole and often curl and twist with age, giving the plant a highly sculptural appearance.
This species grows by producing detachable segments, which is a natural feature rather than a fault. Plants are supplied as established, rooted specimens grown under nursery conditions.
Care
- Light: Bright light to full sun. Strong light encourages compact growth and spine development.
- Water: Water sparingly. Allow the growing media to dry completely between watering.
- Growing media: Very free-draining cactus mix.
- Temperature: Protect from frost. Keep dry during cold weather.
- Handling: Papery spines are fragile and detach easily. Handle with care.

- Growth habit: Jointed, segment-forming cactus
