Tillandsia baileyi is a hardy species native to southern Texas and northeastern Mexico, often found growing on shrubs, trees, and cacti in dry, coastal and scrubland environments. It occurs at low elevations, where it is exposed to strong light, seasonal rains, and steady airflow. This species forms an open rosette of flexible, grey-green leaves with a graceful arch. During flowering, it produces a short pinkish bract and violet tubular flowers. Its adaptability to dry conditions and tolerance of high light levels make it a dependable choice for exposed outdoor displays or bright interiors.
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright light to partial sun; can be grown outdoors in filtered sun
- Water: Mist or soak 2–3 times per week; always allow the plant to dry fully
- Humidity: Tolerates low to moderate humidity; appreciates good airflow
- Media: Mount on cork, stone, or wood; thrives without soil
- Temperature: Ideal range is 15–32°C; tolerates heat and short dry spells
- Fertiliser: Apply diluted tillandsia fertiliser monthly during growth periods
