Tillandsia ionantha 'Peachy Pink' - Pink Blushing Air Plant
Tillandsia ionantha 'Peachy Pink' is a selected cultivar of the widely grown Tillandsia ionantha, chosen for its distinctive blushing pattern during the bloom cycle. While the species typically flushes red, this cultivar exhibits soft peach to warm pink hues across the upper leaves as it approaches flowering. Like the typical form, it is native to Central America and Mexico, where it grows in warm, humid forests at varying elevations. Its compact form and vivid colouration make it a favourite for small displays and terrariums with sufficient ventilation.
Distinctive features:
- Unique peach to pink blush across upper foliage when approaching bloom
- Produces violet tubular flowers that emerge from the blushed centre
- Forms a tight, symmetrical rosette under 10 cm tall
- Covered in silver trichomes that help retain moisture in bright conditions
- Offsets readily to form small clumps over time
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright, filtered light; can tolerate short periods of morning sun
- Water: Mist 3–4 times per week or soak weekly; ensure quick drying to prevent rot
- Humidity: Performs well in moderate to high humidity with good airflow
- Media: Mount on bark, cork, or decorative holders; no soil required
- Temperature: Best kept between 15–30°C; protect from temperatures below 5°C
- Fertiliser: Use diluted tillandsia fertiliser monthly during active growth
Additional Notes:
- Perfect for small arrangements, glass displays (with airflow), or hanging installations
- Bloom colour and foliage blush are enhanced with bright light exposure
- Non-toxic to pets
