Tillandsia ionantha x 10 - Bulk Air Plants
Bulk Pack of 10
Tillandsia ionantha is one of the most recognised and widely grown species in the genus, originating from Mexico, Central America, and parts of South America. It typically grows in warm, tropical forests at elevations from sea level to around 1,800 metres, where it attaches to tree branches in bright, airy locations. This species is admired for its vibrant transformation during flowering: the normally green to silvery leaves blush brilliant red or pink, contrasting strikingly with its violet tubular flowers. The name 'ionantha' comes from the Greek for "violet flower."
Distinctive features:
- Small, compact form often under 10 cm in height
- Leaves turn bright red or pink when in bloom
- Produces vivid violet flowers that emerge from the blushed central leaves
- Covered in dense trichomes that give a frosty appearance when dry
- Offsets readily, forming attractive clumps over time
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light or filtered sun; tolerates morning sun
- Water: Mist 2–4 times per week depending on conditions; ensure it dries within a few hours
- Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity; ensure good ventilation
- Media: Mount on bark, wood, or shell; no potting medium needed
- Temperature: Ideal range is 15–30°C; protect from frost
- Fertiliser: Use diluted tillandsia fertiliser once a month during active growth
