Vanda Pachara Blue is a mericlone hybrid from the Vanda alliance, prized for its opulent deep violet-blue blooms and compact vertical form. This cultivar is particularly admired for its flower size – often exceeding 11 cm – and long-lasting display. Originally bred for ornamental excellence, it performs well in protected outdoor positions or bright indoor locations.
Distinctive Features
- Bloom Size & Colour: Impressive 11 cm+ flowers in vivid indigo to violet-blue with textured veining.
- Growth Habit: Short, upright stems with neatly spaced foliage; ideal for baskets or mounted culture.
- Display Performance: Flowers can last several weeks and appear in succession when well-grown.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright filtered light or semi-shade; avoid direct midday sun.
- Water: Water thoroughly when nearly dry; daily misting recommended in hot weather or for aerial root maintenance.
- Humidity: Prefers high humidity (60–80%) with good air movement.
- Media: Best grown in coarse bark or mounted with exposed roots; avoid dense mixes.
- Temperature: Thrives in subtropical to tropical ranges (15–30°C); protect from frost.
- Fertiliser: Apply balanced orchid fertiliser weekly during active growth; reduce frequency in winter.
- Repotting: Only when necessary – typically every 2–3 years, or when media breaks down.
Additional Notes
- Best flower colouration is achieved under bright light and good temperature differentials between day and night.
- This mericlone hybrid is genetically stable, ensuring uniformity in colour and form between plants.
