Compact Fragrant Vanda with Rich Purple Blooms
Vanda 'Sri Siam' is a cultivated hybrid known for its compact growth habit and richly coloured purple flowers. A mericlone selection, it delivers reliable form and vibrant colour across plants. Ideal for indoor growers or warm-climate gardeners, it thrives with good light and ventilation.
Distinctive Features
- Floral Size and Fragrance: Bears 3 cm blooms with a sweet fragrance, arranged on short, upright spikes.
- Flower Colour: Deep burgundy to plum-purple, often with a slightly velvety finish.
- Growth Habit: Compact and upright, making it suitable for hanging baskets or mounted culture.
Care Tips
- Light: Bright, indirect light indoors; filtered full sun outdoors in covered areas.
- Water: Water regularly in warm weather, allowing media to almost dry between watering; reduce in cooler months.
- Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity; ensure good airflow in enclosed spaces.
- Media: Grows well mounted or in open baskets with coarse orchid bark or charcoal.
- Temperature: Thrives in 18–30°C; protect from cold drafts or temperatures below 12°C.
- Fertiliser: Apply weakly diluted orchid fertiliser fortnightly during active growth.
- Repotting: Every 2–3 years or when roots outgrow the container; best done in spring.
Additional Notes
- Can be grown outdoors in subtropical zones if sheltered from frost and excessive rain.
- Will flower several times per year under good growing conditions, particularly with consistent warmth and feeding.
