Wilsonara Tropical Stripe

Wilsonara Tropical Stripe is a trade name for an Oncidium alliance hybrid, now often placed under updated intergeneric names such as Oncostele. It produces tall, branching inflorescences carrying numerous star-shaped blooms. The flowers have red petals and sepals, a yellow column, and a labellum displaying a blend of red and pink tones, creating a striking contrast. Under suitable conditions, it can bloom more than once a year, with each display lasting several weeks.

Care Tips:

• Light – Provide bright, filtered light; avoid prolonged exposure to strong midday sun.
• Water – Keep the medium evenly moist during active growth, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings.
• Humidity – Prefers 50–70% humidity with good airflow to discourage fungal problems.
• Media – Best grown in fine to medium-grade orchid bark with added perlite or sphagnum moss for moisture balance.
• Temperature – Performs best between 14–26 °C; cooler nights can help initiate flowering.
• Fertiliser – Apply a diluted balanced orchid fertiliser fortnightly in the growing season; flush the medium periodically to prevent salt build-up.
• Repotting – Repot every 1–2 years or when the medium decomposes, ideally as new roots begin to grow.
