Xerosicyos danguyi 'Silver Dollar Vine'
check_circle In Stock
Xerosicyos danguyi, commonly known as Silver Dollar Vine, is a climbing or trailing succulent native to the dry forests of south-western Madagascar. It belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae, and despite its vining habit, it is not a true vine in the botanical sense. This species grows in rocky or sandy soils and is typically found twining through shrubs or scrambling over rocks. Its thick, coin-shaped leaves store water and help it survive prolonged dry periods.
Distinctive features:
- Rounded, silvery-green leaves approximately 2–3 cm across
- Succulent stems that become woody with age
- Tendrils that assist in climbing or anchoring
- Small, pale yellow-green flowers with minimal ornamental value
- Slow-growing, drought-tolerant growth habit
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers full sun to bright, indirect light
- Water: Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings
- Humidity: Tolerates dry air; does not require added humidity
- Media: Well-drained succulent mix, ideally sandy or rocky
- Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions; protect from frost
- Fertiliser: Feed monthly during active growth with diluted cactus fertiliser
- Repotting: Repot only when rootbound; growth is typically slow
