Tillandsia albertiana
cancel Sold out
Tillandsia albertiana is a striking species native to northwestern Argentina, particularly in the provinces of Salta and Jujuy. It grows in semi-arid, rocky environments at elevations between 1,000 and 2,500 metres, often rooted into crevices along cliff faces where it receives bright light, good airflow, and seasonal rainfall. This species is unique among Tillandsias for its fleshy, succulent-like leaves and its vivid red flowers, which are unusually broad and flat compared to the tubular blooms of most other species. Named in honour of German botanist Albert, it remains a favourite among collectors for its bold red flower and tolerance of drier conditions.
Care Tips:
- Light: Thrives in bright, indirect to direct light; benefits from a few hours of sun
- Water: Mist or soak 2–3 times weekly; allow to dry thoroughly before next watering
- Humidity: Tolerant of low to moderate humidity; prefers good ventilation
- Media: Mount on cork or stone; can also be grown in open baskets or on wire
- Temperature: Prefers 15–28°C; tolerates cooler nights if kept dry
- Fertiliser: Use diluted tillandsia fertiliser monthly during active growth
