Tillandsia butzii
check_circle In Stock
Tillandsia butzii is an epiphytic bromeliad native to the moist cloud forests of Central America, particularly Costa Rica and Mexico. This unusual species is famed for its long, curling leaves with a distinctive mottled pattern of dark green and purple, forming a compact rosette that gives it a sculptural, alien appearance. Often used in artistic displays and terrariums, it thrives without soil and draws moisture directly from the air.
Care Tips
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light; can tolerate some early morning or late afternoon sun.
- Water: Mist 2–4 times weekly or soak briefly in water once a week; allow to fully dry before returning to its display.
- Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity; above 50% is ideal.
- Media: No potting medium is needed; mount on wood, cork, or display loose in open terrariums.
- Temperature: Enjoys warm conditions, ideally between 15–30°C; protect from frost.
- Fertiliser: Use a bromeliad or air plant fertiliser monthly, diluted to ¼ strength.
- Repotting: Not applicable; instead, reposition or remount as needed to accommodate pups.
