Tillandsia cyanea 'Pink Quill'
check_circle In Stock
Tillandsia cyanea 'Pink Quill' is a cultivated form of a species native to the moist forests of Ecuador, where it grows at elevations up to 1,000 metres. Unlike most air plants, this variety is frequently grown in pots due to its semi-terrestrial nature. The cultivar is named for its prominent, flat, pink inflorescence that resembles a quill, from which vivid violet-blue flowers emerge successively. Its compact rosette of arching green leaves and long-lasting bracts make it a popular ornamental bromeliad for indoor growing. The accepted botanical name remains Tillandsia cyanea.
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light; avoid direct midday sun
- Water: Water the central leaf tank occasionally and mist lightly; avoid waterlogging the roots in pot culture
- Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity; mist regularly in dry environments
- Media: Can be grown mounted, but also thrives in a well-draining orchid or bromeliad mix
- Temperature: Best grown between 16–28°C; must be protected from cold drafts and frost
- Fertiliser: Apply diluted bromeliad fertiliser monthly during growing season
